Did you know that Barnet nearly became a spa town?! Barnet Physic Well was discovered on Barnet Common during the 17th century. The well is a chalybeate spring. Chalybeate is a word meaning "containing iron" and chalybeate water was said to have many health-giving properties. So popular was the water that it was bottled and sold in London!
