Lambeth Bridge

Lambeth Bridge was opened in July of 1932. Designed by Sir George Humphreys and Sir Reginald Bloomfield, it replaced an earlier suspension bridge at the same site that had not been practical for use by horse drawn or motorised traffic. The red colour of the bridge matches the red seats in the House of Lords, just as the green of Westminster Bridge matches the green benches in the House of Commons.

There are several notable sites in the area including Lambeth Palace, which has been home to the Archbishops of Canterbury since the 13th Century. Also nearby is the Museum of Garden History, which can be found in the lovely settings of the deconsecrated Church of St Mary-at-Lambeth. Further towards Westminster Bridge is St Thomas' Hospital and the Florence Nightingale Museum.
