Easy walking across commons and through pleasant residential parts of south London, with much of interest. Soon after the start a green dome ahead turns out to be Streatham Pumping Station. Tarmac paths lead across Tooting Bec Common, passing the Lido and ponds. At Wandsworth Common the route goes cheekily through the station ticket office, and boardwalks allow close inspection of pondlife. After hurrying past the brooding brown hulk of Wandsworth Prison, you follow a long straight road beside Wandsworth Cemetery. The Wandle Trail is crossed at Earlsfield station, then after Durnsford Road Recreation Ground comes Wimbledon Mosque with its green cupolas.

The entire section uses level pavements or tarmac paths, apart from a footbridge with steps soon after the start off Estreham Road. This can be avoided by going north along Streatham High Road past Streatham station and left along Gleneagle Road to join the route in Conyers Road by Streatham Pumping Station.
